International Students

Foreign Transcript Evaluation

An applicant who has completed secondary/university-level courses in a foreign country that are comparable to credit based courses in the U.S. education system must have his/her courses evaluated and official copies of the evaluations sent to Southwest Kingston University. Foreign transcript evaluations are accepted from any agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (www.naces.org) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (www.aice-eval.org).

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose primary language is not English, with secondary or previous post-secondary education in a foreign country, who do not reside in an English-speaking country (e.g., the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand), must demonstrate English language proficiency. Official documentation must be submitted with the application.

Internet-based TOEFL (iBT)
The TOEFL program has phased in the Internet-based version of the TOEFL test - TOEFL iBT. Prospective students who take the TOEFL iBT must score 71 or higher to gain admission to the University. The TOEFL iBT measures how well a student reads, listens, speaks and writes in English and uses these skills together.

Paper-based TOEFL Test
The paper-based TOEFL test measures: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression, and Reading Comprehension. A minimum score of 530 on the paper-based version is required for admission to the University.

Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
In lieu of the TOEFL, prospective students may submit scores from the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC). A minimum score of 750 is required for admission to the University. Complete information on the TOEIC is available at www.ets.org/toeic.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
In lieu of the TOEFL, students may submit scores from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum score of 6.5 is required to gain admission to the University. Complete information on the IELTS is available online at www.ielts.org.

Admissions Requirements

Southwest Kingston University currently offers the following degree programs-

RN to BSN Program and MBA – HM Program

 

RN to BSN Program

Prerequisites

Prior to admission to the RN to BSN option, the following general education and cognate courses must be completed:
  • English Composition (two semesters)
  • College Algebra
  • Chemistry - General, Organic, and Biochemistry (two semesters)
  • Anatomy and Physiology (two semesters)
  • Microbiology
  • Health
  • Physical Activity and Fitness
  • Introduction to Sociology
  • Introductory Psychology
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Nutrition
  • Introduction to Computer Literacy
  • Statistics (Mathematics or Psychology)
  • Social Science Elective - at least one course in Anthropology, Communication, Economics, Geography, History, or Political Science
  • Humanities and Fine Arts Electives (ten semester hours) - at least one course from the humanities area and one course from the fine arts area. Humanities include ethics, literature, philosophy, and religion. Ethics is a required course for RN to BSN students. Fine arts courses include art, dance, music, speech and theater. One course must be ethics.
Students without the prerequisite courses can take these from community colleges/university to meet the requirements. Students are advised to meet with an enrollment advisor before they proceed.

Admission to the RN to BSN option requires that the following university and College of Nursing requirements be met:

  • Associate degree or diploma in nursing from an approved nursing program
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in any US City
  • Minimum overall grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Grade of C or higher in all mathematics and science courses
  • Satisfactory completion of prerequisite general education and cognate courses

MBA – HM Program

Admission Requirements & Documents

  • Previous Degree Earned
    • Students seeking admission to the MBA in Healthcare Management must have earned, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university
    • Applicants who have graduated from a university outside the United States must provide a degree level equivalency evaluation for admission
  • Completed admissions application
  • Official transcript from degree granting institution
  • Non-refundable application fee submitted with application
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5 (4.0 scale)
  • Personal Statement
  • Two letters of Recommendation
  • Updated Resume
